Gousto
Gousto is one of the most flexible mainstream recipe boxes in the UK, particularly if you want lots of choice or need a box for an unusual household size. You can currently choose from more than 175 recipes each week, with boxes available for 1 to 5 people.
That gives Gousto two clear advantages over many competitors: an unusually large weekly menu and a genuine one-person option. It is therefore particularly interesting for solo cooks, couples and households that regularly get bored with a smaller recipe selection.
Gousto is not automatically the cheapest option for everyone. Smaller boxes cost considerably more per serving, while the lowest advertised portion prices are reserved for larger orders. And unlike some of the other recipe boxes on Too Many Foodboxes, we have not yet completed our own hands-on Gousto test.
Our current verdict: one of the first recipe boxes we would compare if menu choice and flexibility matter most, but our assessment is currently based on product and price research rather than our own cooking experience.

What can you expect from the box?
What can you expect from a Gousto box?
Gousto is a classic recipe kit. You choose the meals you want to cook and receive the measured ingredients and recipe instructions at home. You still prepare and cook the meals yourself, so Gousto should not be confused with a ready-meal delivery service.
Rather than choosing a fixed ‘vegetarian box’, ‘family box’ or ‘gluten-free box’, you build your box from Gousto’s full weekly menu. There are currently more than 175 recipes to choose from, with filters and collections covering options such as vegetarian, plant-based, gluten-free, dairy-free, calorie-controlled, higher-protein and quick meals.
Boxes are available for 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 people. Households of 1 to 4 people can choose between 2 and 5 recipes per box. The current 5-person option is more restricted and is available with 2 or 3 recipes.
Price level: ££
Gousto is competitively priced for larger boxes, but the price per serving varies considerably with household size and the number of recipes you order.
At current standard prices, meals start at £3.20 per serving before delivery when ordering five recipes for four people. At the other extreme, a two-recipe box for one person costs £10.25 per serving before delivery.
Standard delivery is currently £3.99, so always compare the total weekly price rather than the headline ‘from’ price.
Recipes
Menu choice is Gousto's clearest strength. With more than 175 recipes advertised each week, there is considerably more room to vary cuisines, cooking times and meal styles than with many smaller recipe-kit services. There are filters for dietary preferences and health goals, plus quicker recipes for busy evenings. Some dishes also offer ingredient customisations or additional options, although these can affect the final price.
Subscription and flexibility
Gousto is a recurring subscription, but it is relatively flexible. You can change your box, skip deliveries, pause or cancel online or through the app.
You can also choose weekly, fortnightly or monthly deliveries. For an upcoming order, Gousto's current terms state that changes need to be made before midday three days before delivery.
Delivery
Gousto lets you choose a delivery day and currently delivers seven days a week in supported areas. Delivery windows are generally between 8am and 7pm, with tracking provided on the delivery day.
Availability and some faster delivery options depend on your location, so we recommend entering your postcode at Gousto before relying on a particular delivery day or service.
Gousto Recipes
What is the Gousto menu like?
If you regularly abandon a recipe box because the menu starts to feel repetitive, Gousto is particularly interesting. The weekly menu currently contains more than 175 recipes, ranging from familiar family dinners and quick meals to dishes inspired by a wide range of international cuisines.
You can filter the menu by preferences including vegetarian, plant-based, gluten-free and dairy-free recipes. Gousto also has health-focused collections such as Calorie Controlled, Protein Hit and Veg Boost.
That does not mean every Gousto recipe is automatically ‘healthy’. It is a broad recipe service rather than a specialist health programme, and indulgent, premium and takeaway-style meals sit alongside lighter options.
Dietary requirements and allergens
Gousto provides ingredient, nutrition and allergen information for individual recipes and offers filters including gluten-free and dairy-free. We would still check each individual recipe carefully if you have a dietary requirement rather than assuming the whole box follows one diet.
For serious allergies, use Gousto’s current allergen information and contact the company if you need certainty about preparation or cross-contamination. A menu filter is not a substitute for personalised allergy advice.
Experience with Gousto?
Have we tested Gousto ourselves?
Not yet. We test food boxes ourselves whenever possible, but Gousto is currently one of the major UK recipe boxes for which we do not yet have a full Too Many Foodboxes hands-on test.
That means we can compare Gousto’s current prices, menu, box sizes, subscription conditions and other verifiable features, but we do not want to pretend that we can personally judge ingredient quality, portion sizes, delivery reliability or how the recipes cook in a normal household.
Until we have tested it ourselves, we also look at clearly identified independent tests for additional context. For example, Good Food tested Gousto in 2026 and rated it highly for choice and flexibility, while also finding that ingredients were not separated by recipe and that quantities could sometimes feel inconsistent.

What stands out about Gousto?
- 175+ recipes each week: one of the broadest menus among mainstream UK recipe kits.
- Boxes for one person: a genuine advantage for solo cooks who do not want to order two portions of every meal.
- Households up to five people: more flexible sizing than many direct competitors.
- Flexible frequency: weekly, fortnightly or monthly deliveries, with the option to skip or pause.
- Useful menu filters: including vegetarian, plant-based, gluten-free, dairy-free and various health-focused collections.
Points to consider
- We have not tested Gousto ourselves yet, so we cannot currently give a first-hand verdict on ingredient quality or cooking experience.
- Ingredients are not necessarily grouped together by recipe. Good Food’s 2026 test found this made unpacking and selecting ingredients more fiddly.
- The same independent test found some ingredient quantities surprisingly generous while others needed topping up.
- One-person boxes are useful but relatively expensive per portion compared with larger Gousto boxes.
- Premium recipes and other extras can increase the advertised base price.
- Although Gousto has reduced plastic use, individual plastic sachets and packaging have not disappeared completely.

Gousto pricing & discounts
How much does Gousto cost?
Gousto’s price depends heavily on the number of people and recipes in your box. The larger the box, the lower the price per serving.
These are several useful examples from Gousto’s standard UK price list:
- 1 person, 2 recipes: £20.50 + £3.99 delivery = £24.49 per box, or about £12.25 per dinner including delivery.
- 1 person, 5 recipes: £37.00 + £3.99 delivery = £40.99 per box, or about £8.20 per dinner.
- 2 people, 3 recipes: £32.25 + £3.99 delivery = £36.24 per box, or about £6.04 per serving.
- 4 people, 5 recipes: £64.00 + £3.99 delivery = £67.99 per box, or about £3.40 per serving including delivery.
- 5 people, 3 recipes: £59.01 + £3.99 delivery = £63.00 per box, or £4.20 per serving.
This illustrates why Gousto’s headline price of ‘from £3.20 per serving’ needs some context. It is achievable on one of the largest standard boxes before delivery, but a solo customer pays considerably more per meal.
Premium recipes and other surcharges can increase the total. We also keep introductory offers separate from these normal prices, because the discounted first few boxes do not tell you what Gousto costs to keep using.

The costs of a Gousto meal box
The cost of Gousto meal boxes will depend on the specific recipes you choose, as well as any applicable discounts or promotions. As a rough estimate, a box for 2 people with 3 meals (2 servings per meal) typically costs around £30-£40, including delivery.
Who is Gousto best for?
Gousto is particularly worth considering if recipe choice or household flexibility is one of the main reasons you want a recipe box.
Gousto could be a good fit if…
- You cook for one person and want properly portioned one-person recipe boxes.
- You want more weekly recipe choice than most mainstream meal kits provide.
- Your household size changes or does not fit the usual 2 or 4-person box format.
- You like trying different cuisines rather than repeating familiar recipes every week.
- You want the option to order weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
- You want dietary filters without moving straight to a more expensive specialist recipe box.
Look at alternatives if…
- You mainly want the lowest possible price and are cooking for one person. Gousto’s solo option is flexible, but relatively expensive per portion.
- You want every recipe’s ingredients grouped together neatly inside the delivery box.
- You have a complex or serious allergy and need a service built specifically around that requirement.
- You want a strongly health-led or specialist diet programme rather than a broad mainstream menu.
- You do not actually want to cook. A prepared meal service will be more suitable than Gousto.
Gousto alternatives: what should you compare it with?
The most relevant alternative depends on what attracts you to Gousto in the first place.
- Compare Gousto with HelloFresh if you simply want a mainstream recipe box for weeknight cooking. HelloFresh is a particularly natural comparison for couples and families, while Gousto currently offers more flexibility for solo cooks and five-person households.
- Compare Gousto with Green Chef if nutrition goals and specific eating styles matter more than having the largest possible weekly menu. Green Chef has a more explicitly health-led positioning.
- Compare Gousto with Mindful Chef if you are prepared to pay more for a premium, health-focused recipe box. Mindful Chef is less of a direct value competitor and more of an alternative for shoppers prioritising nutrition and ingredient positioning.
If organic and seasonal produce is the main reason you are looking for a food box, a service such as Riverford is a more logical comparison. If you want dinner delivered ready to heat rather than cook from ingredients, compare prepared meal services instead.

Gousto UK FAQ
Does Gousto have a one-person box?
Yes. Gousto currently offers genuine one-person boxes with between 2 and 5 recipes. This is one of its clearest advantages over several other mainstream UK recipe boxes.
How many Gousto recipes are there each week?
Gousto currently advertises more than 175 recipes per week. The exact dishes and collections change from week to week.
How many people can a Gousto box feed?
You can currently order Gousto for 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 people. Boxes for 1 to 4 people can contain 2 to 5 recipes. The 5-person box currently offers 2 or 3 recipes.
Can you cancel Gousto at any time?
You can stop the ongoing subscription without a fixed-term commitment. For an upcoming box, changes or cancellations need to be made before Gousto’s order cut-off, currently midday three days before delivery.
How much is Gousto delivery?
Standard delivery is currently £3.99 per box. Some introductory offers include free delivery on the first box, but we would not include that when comparing normal ongoing prices.
Is Gousto cheaper than HelloFresh?
The two are close competitors and the answer depends on the box size. Gousto currently publishes a comparison showing its standard core boxes slightly below HelloFresh for equivalent sizes, but that comparison is produced by Gousto itself. We therefore recommend comparing the total normal price for the exact household size and number of dinners you would order rather than relying on a general ‘cheapest’ claim.
Is Gousto suitable for gluten-free or dairy-free diets?
Gousto currently lets you filter its menu for gluten-free and dairy-free recipes and provides allergen information for individual dishes. If you have a serious allergy, check the current allergen information for every recipe rather than relying on the menu category alone.
Have Too Many Foodboxes tested Gousto?
Not yet. Our current Gousto assessment is based on our own price and product research plus clearly identified external sources. We will update this page with first-hand findings when we complete a full Gousto test.
