A Riverford recipe box costs £15 to £20 and feeds 2, so three dinners for two come to £45 to £55 a week. That is £7.50 to £9.17 a serving, with free delivery. A seasonal organic veg box costs £16.50 (small) to £26.50 (large).

Riverford is not a recipe box company in the usual sense. It is an organic farm that delivers veg boxes, and recipe boxes are one of the things you can add. Each recipe box holds one dinner, mostly for two people, and there is no subscription. Below you will find what the recipe boxes and the veg boxes cost, what a realistic weekly order comes to, and a calculator.

How much is a Riverford recipe box?
Each box is one recipe with all the key ingredients and a recipe card. On the menu we checked there were eleven:

Two things stand out. Most boxes for two are vegetarian or vegan at £15, and the only meat recipe for two cost £20. And the boxes for four are good value: the creamy squash pasta works out at £3.75 a serving, close to Gousto's cheapest family box at £3.40 with delivery. There were only three of those, though.
Riverford also sells recipe kits, such as a soup kit or a slaw kit for £5.95 to £9.95. Those cover part of a meal and are not counted on this page.
How much does Riverford cost a week?
There is no fixed weekly box, so the total depends on how many recipe boxes you order. With a typical choice from the menu we checked:

For two people a typical box and the cheapest box are the same, because most recipes cost £15. Pick the dearer ones and it ranges up to this:

Riverford has a £20 minimum order for free delivery. A single £15 recipe box does not reach it, so on its own you need at least two, or a recipe box plus something else. If your order includes a set fruit or veg box, there is no minimum at all.

- For two people, £7.50 a serving is the floor. Ordering more boxes does not bring it down, because there is no delivery fee to spread and each box has its own price.
- For four people it is £4.38 to £5.50 a serving, depending on which family recipes you pick.
- There is no box for one. Every recipe box feeds at least two, so on your own you cook once and eat twice.

This is what most Riverford customers actually order. A veg box has no recipes: you get a week of seasonal organic veg and cook with it yourself. Delivery is free and there is no minimum order when a set box is in it.

A medium veg box every week comes to about £86 a month, or £43 if you take one every fortnight.
A realistic weekly order
Because you build your own order, it helps to see a few common combinations. All with free delivery:
- Two people, three dinners from recipe boxes: £45 to £55 a week, about £195 to £238 a month.
- Two people, a small veg box plus two recipe boxes: £46.50 a week. You get two planned dinners and veg for the rest of the week.
- A family, all three family recipe boxes: £59 a week, about £256 a month.
- A medium veg box only: £19.95 a week, if you are happy to plan your own meals.

Unlike the big recipe kits, Riverford does not discount the first few boxes. What you pay on your first order is what you pay every week. The code is also on our Riverford discount code page.
Is Riverford expensive?
For two people, it sits above the mainstream recipe kits and below Mindful Chef. For a family, it is surprisingly close to them. Everything is organic, which none of the big kits can say.

How to pay less at Riverford
- Stick to the £15 recipe boxes. For two people they are the vegetarian and vegan ones.
- Order a family box even for two if you like leftovers. The creamy squash pasta feeds four for £15, the same as a box for two.
- Combine a veg box with fewer recipe boxes. Two planned dinners plus a small veg box covers more of the week than three recipe boxes, for about the same money.
- Order only when you need it. There is no subscription, so you can skip weeks without doing anything.

On 2 October 2026 we went through the recipe box and veg box pages on riverford.co.uk and noted every price, plus the minimum order and delivery terms from Riverford's FAQ. A “typical” recipe box uses the middle price of the menu; the cheapest and dearest use the actual recipes on it. Every other figure on this page, including the calculator, is worked out from those prices. More on our approach is on how we review.
The recipe menu changes every week, although many recipes run for two. If the boxes you see are priced differently, let us know and we will check again.

How much is a Riverford recipe box?
£15 to £20 for a box that feeds 2, and £15 to £24 for a box that feeds 4. Each box is one recipe.
How much is a Riverford veg box?
The Seasonal Classic Organic Veg Box costs £16.50 (small), £19.95 (medium) or £26.50 (large). A fruit and veg box costs £18.95 to £28.95.
Does Riverford charge for delivery?
No. Delivery is always free, as long as your order is at least £20. If it includes a set fruit or veg box, there is no minimum.
Do I need a subscription for Riverford?
No. You can place one-off orders whenever you like, or set up a regular order from weekly to monthly and change, pause or cancel it at any time. Changes can be made until 11:45pm two days before delivery.
Is Riverford cheaper than HelloFresh?
Not for a couple: three dinners for two cost £45 to £55 at Riverford and £37.93 at HelloFresh. For a family of four it is about level, £59 against £58.87.
Can I order one Riverford recipe box?
Only as part of an order of at least £20, or together with a set veg or fruit box. A single £15 box on its own is below the minimum.
