Vegan subscription boxes with plant-based products

Vegan recipe boxes have moved well beyond a single filtered-out option on someone else’s menu, most mainstream providers now run a genuine vegan range, and a few build every recipe plant-based from the start. Below, we compare the UK boxes with the strongest vegan choice, so you’re picking from a proper vegan menu rather than the leftovers of an omnivore one.

Vegan meal boxes

The vegan meal box has grown fast, most mainstream recipe box providers now offer a vegan filter or range alongside their regular menu, so the real question isn’t which providers do vegan any more, it’s which one gives you a vegan range that doesn’t feel like an afterthought.

What kind of vegan options are available?

  • Vegan-first recipe boxes. Every recipe is plant-based by default, rather than filtered out of a mixed-diet menu.
  • Mixed recipe boxes with a vegan range. Larger providers run a dedicated vegan selection alongside their standard menu, usually with more overall variety to choose from.
  • Seasonal, whole-food vegetable boxes. Built around vegetables rather than meat-alternative products, worth knowing if you want, or want to avoid, recipes built around plant-based mince and similar.

How to compare vegan meal boxes

Check how many genuinely vegan recipes are on the weekly menu, not just whether a vegan filter exists, some providers only run one or two vegan-suitable dishes a week. It’s also worth checking whether packaging and delivery materials are vegan-friendly too, some providers use ice packs or packaging with animal-derived components, and being aware that cross-contamination in shared kitchens is a real caveat if that matters to you specifically.

Which vegan box should you choose?

Grubby is built vegan-first rather than as a filtered subset of an omnivore menu, so if you want a box where every recipe is already plant-based by default, that’s a more natural fit than filtering a larger provider down to its vegan options. Gousto and Green Chef both have solid vegan ranges within a much bigger overall menu, better if you want variety and don’t mind picking vegan recipes out of a wider list each week. Riverford’s vegan range leans into seasonal, whole-food vegetables rather than meat-alternative-heavy recipes.

We’ve tested Green Chef ourselves, though so far only the Dutch meal box rather than the UK version, so we can’t speak to the UK vegan range first-hand. We haven’t tested Grubby, Gousto or Riverford ourselves, those recommendations are based on their published recipe ranges rather than hands-on experience.

Who are vegan meal boxes best for?

Anyone eating fully plant-based, or households mixing vegan and non-vegan eaters who want a genuinely varied vegan range rather than the same two or three recipes each week. If you’re more flexible and occasionally eat dairy or eggs, our vegetarian meal boxes category is worth comparing too.
